Excitement is mounting in Yalgoo as the town prepares to welcome visitors from near and far for its own special brand of outback entertainment at the annual Yalgoo Emu Festival.
The smoke and alcohol-free family-friendly festival on Sunday September 30 is jam packed with fun challenges and hilarious emu-themed events at Yalgoo’s Old Railway Sporting Complex.
Yalgoo CEO Silvio Brenzi said the increasingly popular annual festival was becoming a “must-do” event on the Mid West and Murchison social calendar.
“The Yalgoo Emu Festival has become renowned for its hilarious brand of outback-style entertainment – you certainly won’t find anything like this in the city,” Mr Brenzi said.
“The festival boasts the most wonderful atmosphere – full of laughs, high spirits and a real feeling of community.
“We love the way it brings together Yalgoo residents and visitors to share good times and strengthen community bonds.”
The festival kicks off with a free community breakfast from 7.30am to 8.30am, followed by emu egg carving, games, workshops, DJ, petting zoo and more from 9.00am.
The official opening and welcome starts at 10.30am, after which the rest of the program swings into action, with an emu sculpture competition, Emu egg carving, DJ, cheerleading display, costume and mask making workshops, paint battles, dunking machine and Velcro wall and more.
Later in the day, festival goers dressed-up as emus’ race against each other in the hilarious emu races, while ‘Ninja Warriors’ pit themselves against outback elements in the ‘Ninja Warrior 2018’ competition.
After award presentations, festival goers settle will be treated to a community concert with routines performed by the children of Yalgoo plus live music from Hip Hop artist Bryte MC and Australia’s favourite premier soul duo The Merindas.
This year the Shire of Yalgoo is offering a free coach to the festival, from Geraldton to Yalgoo and return.
The coach will depart Geraldton 7am from the Bill Sewell Complex, continue to Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service for pick up and then on to Yalgoo.
It will do a return trip departing the Yalgoo Emu Festival at 4.30pm after the 'Ninja Challenge'.
