Youth Services - Yalgoo Community Gym
The Shire Youth & Community Development Officer, Linaire Hodge and Tamihana Cumming, Parent Coordinator & Social Worker from the Yalgoo branch of Centacare, have created a Community Gym and Workshop to give the local people of Yalgoo, the opportunity to get up and get active.
During the last two terms Linaire, Tamihana and local policeman Brigham, ran Zumba and Box FitUp/running classes at the Railway Station Complex and the Community Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. These received a great turn out by the community, youth, children and adults, whom attended and participated for fitness and well-being..
The Local Drug Action Group (LDAG) via the LDAG rep for the area Katrine Rogers, generously granted funding to set up the Community Gym and buy tools for the Community & Men's Shed Workshop. They are now well out-fitted.
SportFirst/Flex Sports in Geraldton were also fantastic contributors to the project giving a generous discount that facilitated Linaire and Tamihana to purchase plenty of gear for the gym.
Linaire and Tamihana have a vision of offering the community a chance to make a choice regarding their lives, health and well-being. Along with the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities, using wood and metals, the workshop participants will be able to create outdoor furniture, sculptures and art works.
The Gym and Workshop opening hours are designed to enable diverse groups in the community, access at appropriate times to fit their schedules.
Opening hours are:
11.00 am - 12.30 pm Monday - Thursday
6.00 pm - 7.30 pm Monday - Thursday
