Aged Care Services
From 1 July 2014, there are changes to aged care for older people including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
These changes are designed to give all older people more choice, and more of the services they might need to help them stay in their own home for longer and remain independent.
It’s important that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and their families, are aware of how these changes will impact on them, and how they can access the aged care support and information they need.
The changes include more support for older people to stay in their own home and community, with more home care packages to meet their needs. There will be greater flexibility in how to pay for accommodation in an aged care home, and accommodation prices and services are now listed on the My Aged Care website.
The sooner we all start yarning about aged care and planning it, the better the outcome for older people and their families.
A brochure for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Let’s yarn about changes to aged care, is also available and can be ordered by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
For information and support, older people and those caring for them can contact
